Marina Fest 2020 CANCELLED

It has been a challenging year for everyone who has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. A lot of uncertainty still exists in anticipating where the virus will spread and the best ways to avoid major outbreaks. After thoughtful consideration, the Village of Sister Bay Marina Fest Committee would like to announce that Marina Fest 2020 is canceled for this year.

As you may be aware, this festival is a major fundraiser for area non-profit organizations including the following:
Sister Bay Lions Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Department
Gibraltar School Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church
Door County Library Door County Maritime Museum
Top O’ The Thumb Snowmobile Club

Your past attendance and participation in this event directly supported these organizations and their efforts to provide quality programs for our local community. Please know that we are actively planning for Marina Fest 2021 (Music! Food! Fireworks!) and can’t wait to see you ALL next year!

In the meantime, please consider a donation this year to help support these groups or a local charity in your hometown. Food pantries have experienced greater demands than in the recent past due to the coronavirus, and any contribution you can make would help to support those efforts locally.

Checks can be made payable to Sister Bay Marina Fest and sent to: Village of Sister Bay, P.O. Box 769, Sister Bay, WI 54234. All donations are tax deductible.

Sincere thanks from the Marina Fest Committee,
Scott Baker, Vivian Nienow, Sue Lundquist, Chris Hecht,
Mike Scoville, and Chuck Klima

***CREDIT CARD DONORS*** Make your donation by calling the Marina office at (920) 854-4457.
Donors will be acknowledged on a banner to be hung at the marina during the month of September.

MARINA UPDATES- 05/27/2020

MARINA UPDATES:

As we move into the season, we may or may not have to modify our policies and procedures and we will do our best to keep you up to date on all changes.

As of now, we have implemented the following:

1. We have installed plexi-glass in the office and have marked the floor with 6’ social distancing markers. We appreciate your efforts in wearing masks and our staff will be doing the same when we cannot practice social distancing.

2. When possible, we would appreciate all transactions to be made on a credit card to help us reduce the handling of cash.

However, for launch passes, please use the red launch box to pay the $10.00 fee in the envelopes provided to reduce the activity in the office.

3. Pump-Outs, we are now requiring you to SCHEDULE your pump outs at least 48 hours in advance. We require payment in advance (credit card preferred) and we ask that nobody be on the boat while our staff is completing the pump out. You can wait on the dock if you wish to be there.

4. Dock assistance- as previously mentioned in prior updates, in order to practice social distancing, we are limiting the amount of staff we have on per shift, so we ask that you please be patient with us. We will do our best to get to everyone as quickly as possible, but there may be a slight wait on busier days. We also ask that you practice social distancing when our crew is assisting you.

5. Restrooms- the PUBLIC restrooms are available 24 hours a day. We will be cleaning and sanitizing them frequently, we are trying to encourage only one person at a time, we suggest that you lock the door behind you while using. BOATERS restrooms will remain locked, should you need to use the showers, they will be available during office hours and you will need to gain access by asking our staff. We will have one shower available in each restroom and will only allow one person in the restroom at a time, again, so we can practice social distancing and to allow our staff to clean and sanitize the shower after each use. We will have one sink and one toilet available in each restroom while utilizing the showers, however, we will only be allowing access to the boaters restrooms for people who need to utilize the shower, NO EXCEPTIONS, the PUBLIC RESTROOMS ARE AVAILABLE 24 HOURS A DAY.

6. Bikes and grills- the bikes are out and can be used during business hours. We have purchased all new grills this year, we will have those out this week. As always, we appreciate your help in cleaning them after each use as much as you can and please remember to turn off propane after use.

Anyone who currently has a CONFIRMED reservation for June is still welcome to come in as scheduled.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will post any and all updates on our website as well as our Facebook Page.

Sister Bay Freedom Fest- CANCELLED

Door County’s community associations released a joint statement Tuesday announcing the cancellation of Fourth of July festivities throughout the county. Full statement is below:

It is with great disappointment that the communities of Door County have announced that 4th of July festivities have been canceled throughout the county, including fireworks celebrations in Baileys Harbor, Egg Harbor, Sturgeon Bay, Maplewood, and Gills Rock. This includes parades in Baileys Harbor and Egg Harbor and Freedom Fest on July 11 in Sister Bay.

This decision comes only after careful consideration and consultation with all communities, municipal boards, business associations, stakeholders, emergency services, and the Door County Public Health Department. Ultimately, each community decided that concern for the health and safety of our visitors, residents, vendors, and our health care workers is more important than our desire to celebrate in mass gatherings.

This was an incredibly difficult decision for our communities to reach. Celebrating our independence, our communities, and our neighbors is something we look forward to every year, and we know it’s something our visitors and businesses look forward to as well. But in a time of social distancing, we can’t responsibly encourage thousands of people to congregate in environments that are impossible to police and therefore are following the guidelines laid out for “outdoor events” by the WEDC.

This in no way should lessen the meaning of the day, and we urge everyone to celebrate the spirit of our nation’s heritage in a manner in which you feel comfortable.

Public safety was, and will always be, the primary factor in this decision, but not the only one. We rely on donors to fund our 4th of July events and fireworks shows and it takes time to collect those funds, order supplies, and prepare for festivities. Given the present economic climate, we did not feel that it was appropriate to ask our businesses and residents to donate when most are experiencing extreme financial hardship. We also don’t feel it’s appropriate to ask our public works crews, firefighters, police officers, and first responders to put themselves at greater risk than necessary.

Our communities will do everything we can to make these celebrations better than ever in 2021.

All pump outs must be paid in advance with credit card until further notice.
  • With the limited staff and hours, please understand that there may not be someone available to help with your lines, staff will do their best to assist everyone while practicing social distancing.

Our commitment to serving our customers has never been stronger and we’ll continue to do our part to help everyone get through this difficult time.  The Village of Sister Bay, including the Marina Committee, will continue to monitor the situation and will communicate to our customer’s all updates as they come available.  For the most up to date information, please visit our website and/or Facebook page.
